The AI in Focus Project produces and shares academic research to improve how digital service providers explain AI systems to those implicated in associated data, algorithms, and automated decision-making.

In the AI context, transparency refers to the breadth/depth of details present in notice materials communicated by entities engaging in AI development and use.

This refers to the extent notice materials communicate the complex details/implications of AI systems in ways that can be understood by varied individuals.

AI notice materials are information disclosures by organizations about their AI practices. Notice materials should convey the implications/risk/benefits of those practices. While organizations often convey some of this information via text-based terms of service and privacy policies, other notice materials like videos, signs, and games might help ensure people understand AI practices and implications before deciding whether or not to consent.
