Video Prototype Archive (EN)

We developed social media-style videos to help explain how artificial intelligence works. These prototypes should be considered by digital service providers and policymakers working to supplement text-based privacy policies and improve meaningful consent processes online. Watch our video prototypes below.

How Our AI Works

This animated, 60-second video provides information about an organization’s algorithmic scoring system in a job application scenario. The AI denies the job candidate based on the assessment. What makes the video in a social media style is the vertical presentation, the TikTok-style music, and the animation. Video attribution list.

University Application

This video is live-action and 26-seconds long. It shows a racialized female expressing concern that AI is being used to assess university applications by looking at social media content. The video concludes with a call-to-action “if you wanna know more FOLLOW!” What gives the video a social media/TikTok style is its hand-held, live-action presentation, its quick editing cuts and TikTok-style music.

AI Didn't Pick Me

This 52-second live-action narrative is about an organization using AI to assess a job applicant. A racialized female goes for a job interview. Facial recognition analysis during the interview links biometric data to social media content which is evaluated. This results in a failing score and rejection. The video adapts a Wes Anderson meme, including music, that trended on TikTok in 2023.

Job Application

This animated, 60-second video provides information about an organization’s algorithmic scoring system in a job application scenario. It depicts an applicant’s resume being uploaded to an AI system followed by the software accessing social media and other online data to determine candidate scores on trust, neuroticism, and liability. The AI denies the job candidate based on the assessment. What makes the video in a social media style is the vertical presentation, the TikTok-style music, and the animation.

Data Retention

This animated, 63-second video provides information about an organization’s data retention policy. It depicts data flowing from a device to international data centres and ends by noting that data retained may be linked to AI development. A call-to-action prompts individuals to read the text-based privacy policy for more information. The video includes TikTok-style music.

The Future of College Admissions?

This 50-second animated video was co-created by artist Danny Casale (aka Coolman Coffeedan), his team, and our AI In Focus team. It hypothesizes on AI systems scanning videos of applicants and gathering personal data for automated decision-making. In this scenario, Spesh is greeted by the college president for admissions but then rejected after AI analysis of their online behaviour.
